The Khmer Empire Society
The Initiation
Due to the Khmer Empire originally being apart of tribes, there are still initiations. For example some may be to kill certain men in battle or a certain amount of men, most of which are in the initiation also, maybe fight with 30 wolves, or maybe diving off a bridge into a shallow river. The soldier or civilian had to pass an initiation which proves their skill and more importantly, their faith. The initiation usually consisted of deadly tests. Being a Ganesha Pilot is rather high spot of power and are usually given to the best of the best, or to soldiers who have lost a limb in battle and wish to keep on fighting. but they must still pass the initiation.
Food
The most common type of food is Prahok. It's used for nearly everything, and as a matter of fact, is actually more common than rice. It is crushed, salted and fermented fish and is the Khmer staple food. It originated as a way of preserving old fish. Stinks, but tastes like heaven, usually eaten with rice, and because if it's distinct smell and taste, it is usually used with other foods, sort of like a sauce or an ingredient. Rice is right under prahok as a staple food, it is very important to the Khmer Empire as a bowl of rice can feed a soldier, and not much is needed to fill a bowl of rice. They can eat it plain, or with anything. it wouldn't have mattered. Like the original Khmer Empire, they have a self-efficient economy due to rice. They could live by themselves even with an orbital blockade for ages. The only way to cut their resources is to destroy the rice farms. They don't need to trade with others, even though they like to do so. It's more a sense of adventure than anything. Rice is important. as it could be grown anywhere, at any time, and in large quantities.
Language
They use the original Khmer script. It was one of the original languages to appear in South East Asia, and is still being used. The script was changed lightly, and the remnants of the Khmer speakers on Earth do not speak the same dialect. The dialect on the planet is known as the Tek Dialect, named after God-Emperor Songharaddh's grandfather and didn't have an official name until God-Emperor Songharaddh named it.
